Care and Maintenance Tips for Mini Pendants

Vigil recommends that you develop processes for managing the pendants at your community. Vigil’s Training Team recommends having two to three people trained and responsible for the management of your pendants and other wireless devices. It is important to not have so few people responsible that someone being away will not impact your community while also not having so many that it becomes difficult to manage.

We have included some suggested processes below for your team.

Resident needs a mini pendant

  1. Have your selected staff member add it to the Vigil software and assign the device to the resident’s room.
  2. Test the device to ensure it comes up with the correct information and that it is in working order prior to issuing it to the resident.

Resident has lost the mini pendant, or it is no longer working

  1. Have your selected staff member issue a new device and replace the ID number in the software.
  2. Test the device to ensure it comes up with the correct information and that it is in working order
prior to issuing it to the resident.

Resident leaves your community and returns the pendant

  1. Have your selected staff member clean the device,Take the battery out and add the device to your Vigil inventory location.
  2. Delete the device from the software. This is an important step so that your device does not raise
a “device not found” call on the Active Calls screen.

Resident leaves the community property for an extended period and takes their device with them.

Because the device is outside of the Vigil network, you will receive “device not found” alerts on your
Active Calls screen.

To avoid this:

  1. Go into Vigil Remote and find the pendant that is not at your community
  2. Select Away from the bottom of the screen
  3. Select the date you expect them to return. If you are not sure, select a date far in the future. Once the pendant comes back on the property it will work regardless of the date.
  4. Test the device to ensure it is still in working order. The battery can drain quickly the longer the device is outside of the Vigil network so potentially your resident can return with a dead battery.

Additional Recommendations

  • Keep spare devices and batteries and use the recommended battery: Energizer CR2025 3 volts
  • Perform regular tests and audits on pendants in the software to ensure that the active box is checked, the paging plan is assigned and that all devices in the software are assigned to the correct residents.
  • Pendants are water resistant and can withstand water splashing them IF the back has been put
on correctly. Please make sure when you are changing batteries that the back is returned to the pendant with no gaps and all corners tucked back into the plastic edge.
  • When cleaning pendants, use a light cleansing wipe. Do not bleach.
  • When pendants are not in use, store them with the battery removed, in a safe place.
